Something I think we should consider...

...we haven't been doing a whole lot of active recruiting, mostly because we're all busy with real life, other games, and getting the Vault site up to speed. But with MoM less than a week away, we might want to revisit this and think about which direction we want to take.

I'm going to suggest that we make a special effort to appeal to older gamers. I'm a member of two such sites, GeezerGamers and 2Old2Play. Older gamers are fun...they often have many years of experience under their belts, are patient and relaxed, and take real joy in their games. This in turn makes it fun for everybody. And they also understand, as younger games sometimes fail to, that rl sometimes has to take precedence.

Here are both sites, if you want to take a look at them:

Geezer Gamers
A Website for the Older Gamer - 2old2play

Check 'em out, and let me know what you think. This seems to be an untapped resource for LOTRO recruiting!

ewww old people smell funny. lol jk Tanith your not old women can never be old just mature maybe right? As far as older gamers go the majority of gamers is in my age group. (though now with the casual gamer burst thanks to nintendo ds and wii it might not be the same) If we want to recruit members to the site we should also think about branching off into console games. I know we have alot of xbox live players here and xbox live has millions of users.

location location location is the old axiom for marketing
My suggestion is go where the gamers are (or will be)

I booked the sites you listed an will prolly join them too but for the answer to recruitment (here) I don't think it is the answer

I dunno how much cooperation you'd get from game stores (the source for all gamers) but if a card or bulletin could be left for existing and new gamers with the location and benefits listed I think many would join for a number of reasons... support, curiosity, tips/hints, team-building, and the benefits of joining an established community as opposed to trying to create one where all beginners feel isolated with their inexperience in game play.

GV offers all that and more, it offers a family type of relationship where others are welcome to become adopted into the fold and reap the rewards of a giving (of themselves and of their goods) community

It isnt hard to sell the idea, the barricade is from other sites that are either jealous out of greed or competition.

Any gaming retailer would welcome the opportunity to offer more than just a sale (it would be in their best interest to do so) that begins with a sales pitch and ends at the cash register... a community of gamers offering support/advice is a step up to any and all gamers whether established or beginner and in the case of established offer the chance to share their earned wisdom.

GV isnt a site for accolades nor profit, but a site for information... who better to offer it than those who are already here?

When I first joined not so long ago, my dclone hunting consisted of camping a random server overnight in the hopes of getting lucky... my success rate was dependent upon the assumption that walks were random... having come here I learned that walks are engineered by fellow gamers who plan it in advance and once a member I was able to participate with a more informed success rate.

GV is really the key to unlock that door of ignorance and who wouldn't be interested in opening that door? (aside from other sites that capitalize upon ignorance)

This alone is where the generosity of its members outshines the competition and how could it not be the winning strategy?

It surprises me that so few already know of gv's existence...

I don't push the site on others but do steer others here whenever the opportunity presents itself in discussion and am sure I have steered at the least, several this way. I didnt do it for the accolades and have seldom even mentioned my username here... my aim was to help those who were seemingly good people who had an interest in helping others.

This is how GV came to be in the first place I am guessing...
