If this is microsofts problem, shouldn't they fix this for free regardless?

1. afaik microsoft sends you a replacement *refurbished* 360 for free...as it is their faulty machine...
2. the towel fix is only a temporary fix, atleast thats what i've heard in most cases... But if you DO decide to use this method, take the HD out first....

Microsoft knows their machines have a problem, yet they only come out with temporary problem fixers. Almost everyone I know who has the XBox has gotten the 3 Red Lights of Death. Usually when a console has a major problem, they do a call-back and fix it. I guess Microsoft is to cheap...

They will fix it for free and even send you a box to mail it in if you mention that you gonna go buy a playstation or nintendo to them on the phone. Ive done many times.

Microsoft gave every 360 a 3 year warranty for the RRoD, you send it in for free and get it fixed or replaced for free, with a little card for an extra month of XBL

the towel trick is a temporary fix, at best, in fact it can CAUSE the RRoD

trust me on this, I have had to replace 5 Xbox's(original or 360) in the past... 3 years, all for the RRoD

Although a temp fix might save you some time (and in the case of those whose warranties have run out, some money) it's probably best to send your RROD'ed 360 in to microsoft to let them fix it. I've had quite a few friends that have had the Red Ring (some on multiple XBOXes) and the time it takes to ship there and back can vary greatly, all the way from around a week to close to a month.

Microsoft is fixing all Xbox 360's for free now since there have been so many problems.
