such a loaded question. completely based on what you're doing and what the opposing team is made up of. personally, i think shamans are OP in there amazing ability to pair up with any other class and scrape pretty well (i'm including a shaman that has gear for every spec and is willing to respec). druids are slightly more versatile, since they can tank/melee dps/ranged dps/heal, but the only thing a shaman is missing out of that is tanking, which is not really necesarry. shamans also have rediculous spells like Bloodlust (increases attack speed and cast speed by 40% for 45 sec for your ENTIRE party) which can easily make or break a team. also, they have tremor totem, which removes all fear, sleep, and charm effects, rendering your precious warlock more or less unaffective. for class specificities, if you go ele, you have elemental mastery, which gives you a guarenteed crit on your next nature spell. coupled with nature's swiftness (next nature spell is instant cast) and a nice damage trinket, and you cast a chain lightning (a +dmg, instant cast, guarenteed crit chain lightning), and you already have the upper hand. Also on the resto tree is earth shield, which everyone knows is absolutely amazing. it's better than a HoT, cuz the person who has it on the, only gets healed when someone hits them, so it lasts longer than a HoT. for enhance, you get shamanistic rage, which decreases any damage taken by 20%. mix this with bloodlust, and you have a big character, who attacks 40% faster and takes 20% less damage, and you're unstoppable. you also get the gorgeous instant cast wolf, which allows you to travel around the arena just as fast as any druid, and then pop up, stormstrike, earth shock, earthbind totem, ghost wolf run away, and you just dropped them 25% without even taking a bit of dmg.
i could go on, but i'll spare you guys. basically, shamans are amazing. this is why i play one. =)
