How To Auto Connect to mIRC

This is how to use a script to auto log on to gv using mIRC. I would only use this if you use one server. If you multi server, it will join all these channels on both.

Go to Tools, then click Scripts Editor



Put this in the Remote tab On *:connect:/ns3
(It doesn't matter if it says /ns3 or /z or something, as long as it's the same as the script that goes in aliases, it's just the script command. If you disconnect, you can type /ns3 or what you set it to, to reconnect.)



Put this in the Aliases tab
(there are 2 spaces between the edge and /j make sure they are there when you paste this script in)

I have those channels added, you can select your own by changing them to what you want, even adding a line for more channels

Nice guide, thanks. I finally got around to setting this up today after being reminded of it by noz and bassius.

FYI, I've figured out how to get around the multi-server problem. In case anyone besides noz (who helped with testing this) is interested, here are the details.

Put this in the Remote tab On *:connect:/ns3

Don't do this. We'll handle this differently.

Choose the Tools | Options... menu item to open the options dialog. Go to the Connect / Servers category, and find the GamersVault server in the list. Click the Edit button.



In the edit dialog, make sure you have something entered for "Group." I chose "GamersVault," but this can be any value. Close the Edit dialog when you're finished.



Now switch to the Connect / Options category in the options dialog. Click the Perform... button.



In the perform dialog, check "Enable perform on connect." For "Network," choose the name of the group that you entered previously for the GamersVault server. If that group isn't already available as a choice on the dropdown, you can click the Add button to put it there. Finally, put the /ns3 command in the "Perform commands" area (Note: the screenshot shows "/gvidentify" because I renamed Electricbblue's aliases; you should use /ns3 unless you did the same).



Now you should be all set. Next time you connect to GV's IRC server it will auto-join your channels, but it won't fire off the command on any other servers you define (unless you also put those in the GamersVault group -- don't do that!).
