So, a D2 ladder reset!

Yeah, that guy. Big, red, scaly, anger management issues. Are you ready to develop and equip a character to go after him in his various incarnations again?

Of course it's been the talk of every gaming site for days now, but just on the outside chance that you missed the announcement by Blizzard's very own Bashiok, here it is:

We’re preparing for a Diablo II ladder reset to coincide with the release of the 1.13 patch that’s currently in development. We don’t have a final release date for the patch yet, but we’re providing early warning as a reset could occur as early as the end of April. We’ll be providing updates with more certain dates once the patch is closer to release.

Please be aware that with a ladder reset all ladder characters are moved to non-ladder. This means that your characters will still be accessible but will no longer have access to ladder-only features and games. In order to play in the new ladder season after the reset you will need to make new ladder characters.


Personally, I think it's very nice of the folks at Blizzard to arrange not only a content patch, but a ladder reset, to coincide with the four-year anniversary of GamersVault, which is after all THE top D2 community out there. Okay, maybe they're NOT doing it just for us, but certainly they're doing it because they know that fan interest in this game is far from gone. Like the game's namesake, D2 cannot die forever.

And it goes without saying that we here at the Vault will be keeping very close tabs on this story as it develops, and will let you know as soon as we have any more information on dates and other details. Of course, once the ladder DOES reset, we will be right there with you to help you level, gain the gear and knowledge you need, and prepare to go toe-to-clawed-toe with the Lord of Terror once more. As you can see in the above limited edition print done by Keith Parkinson, he's more than willing to test the mettle of any challenger.

So yeah, we're still working on the patch. It's coming along really well. We're getting there. I can't give an estimate or date, we're expecting there to be a good amount of testing required due to the types of changes being made. We want to take our time and put out a solid patch, and that means we don't have a release date right now.

Some exciting news - and it also may be some comfort - due to the types of changes we're making we will be offering the Diablo II 1.13 patch for testing and feedback on a beta server before its release. We'll have more information about how you'll be able to help test it in the coming weeks.
